About Us

Laytown Sustainable Energy Community was established in Sep’22 with a simple vision, to make our town carbon neutral within 10 years. While the vision is simple the task is not and will require the whole community’s sustained effort to succeed.

Our Plan

We will achieve our vision by identifying, financing and implementing renewable and energy efficiency projects in our town. By doing this ourselves, we will build our expertise and create jobs & opportunities for our community.

1 – Building retrofit & individual renewable generation

roof/wall/floor insulation, window & door upgrades, smart controls, local renewable generation & storage

2 – Green Transport

Safe, green, regular & free/subsidised public transport, better walking & cycling access to public transport hubs, reduced single vehicle journeys

3 – Renewable Energy Community

Large-scale renewable generation., Electricity & thermal storage, district heating networks, community energy aggregation/virtual power plant/peer-to-peer trading
